Gemini immersive explorations are tap-through visual lessons in the Gemini app, launched October 28, 2026. What they are, who gets them, and how to open them.

Gemini immersive explorations are a new way to learn a topic in the Gemini app: instead of reading a wall of text, you tap through a picture of the thing and zoom into each part. Google added them on October 28, 2026, and the name is already showing up in searches like "what is gemini immersive explorations" and "gemini interactive encyclopedia."

So what are they, who can use them, are they free, and how do you open one? Here are the plain answers, with what is confirmed and what is still coming.

**TL;DR:** Gemini immersive explorations are a library of interactive, visual lessons inside the Gemini app, launched by Google on October 28, 2026. You pick a topic, like a jet engine or the Silk Road, and tap layers to dig from the big picture down to small details. They work on web and mobile for personal Google accounts and Google Workspace users in six languages, and you open them at gemini.google.com/immersive-explorations. You can only pick from Google’s ready-made topics for now.

## What are Gemini immersive explorations?

Google describes them as a library that gives you "an interactive, visual way to explore topics layer-by-layer, from microscopic systems to deep space." Each exploration starts as a scene. Parts of the scene turn into tappable spots, and each one opens a short guided explanation. Tap again and you go one layer deeper.

Google’s own examples are trade routes on the Silk Road, how a jet engine works, and the physics of lightning. In its launch post, Google says you can move from a planet-sized view all the way down to molecules and atoms.

Android Authority, which tried the feature on October 29, counted about 20 topics in categories such as Civilizations, Energy, Engineering, Medicine, Geology, Oceans and Spaceflight. Its reviewer called it "more of an interactive encyclopedia than a study tool," which is a fair way to picture it: think of a museum exhibit you can poke at, not a chatbot answer.

## Gemini immersive explorations at a glance

| Question | Answer |
| --- | --- |
| Made by | Google, inside the Gemini app |
| Launched | October 28, 2026 (Google blog and Workspace Updates) |
| Where | Web and mobile |
| Who gets it | Personal Google accounts, all Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers |
| Languages | English, Indonesian, Hindi, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Simplified Chinese (other languages get English for now) |
| Topics | A fixed library, about 20 at launch per Android Authority |
| Make your own? | No, not at launch |
| Coming soon | Audio narration, and opening explorations inside a normal Gemini chat |
| Model behind it | Not stated by Google |

## How to try Gemini immersive explorations

- Go to **gemini.google.com/immersive-explorations** in a browser, signed in with your Google account. This opens the full library.

- Or open the **student hub** in Gemini (gemini.google.com/students, or pick Students in the Gemini menu) and choose **Try immersive explorations**.

- Pick a topic, then tap any highlighted part of the scene to open its explanation and go deeper.

One note on the student hub: Google’s Workspace post lists the hub for Education Fundamentals, Standard and Plus school accounts. The library link itself is listed for everyone above. Android Authority also said some explorations failed to load in several browsers on day one, so if one hangs, try another topic or come back later.

## Are Gemini immersive explorations free?

Google says the feature is "available to all users" in the six launch languages, and its Workspace post lists users with personal Google accounts. Google does not mention a paid plan such as Google AI Pro anywhere in the launch posts. So as far as the announcements go, you only need a Google account. If Google later limits topics or features by plan, we will update this page.

There is also no switch for school or company admins. Google’s Workspace post says there is no admin control and no user setting for the feature.

## Immersive explorations vs a normal Gemini answer

| | Immersive exploration | Regular Gemini chat |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Format | Visual scene you tap through, layer by layer | Text answer, sometimes with images |
| Topics | Only Google’s ready-made list | Anything you type |
| Best for | Seeing how parts of a system fit together | Specific questions and follow-ups |
| Takes action for you? | No, it is for learning | Mostly answers, with some extra tools |

The key limit is the fixed list. If you want to learn how a jet engine works, it is great. If you want to understand your own lab report or your company’s supply chain, you are back to typing questions. Google says explorations will soon open inside regular chats, but it has not said whether you will be able to make one on any topic.

It is not the only recent change to the Gemini app. On September 30, Google announced it is replacing Gems with [Gemini skills](https://whatisagenticai.net/blog/what-are-gemini-skills/), and on the model side it just shipped [Gemini 4 Carbon](https://whatisagenticai.net/blog/what-is-gemini-4-carbon/). Google has not said which model draws or writes the explorations.

## What this means for you

If you are a student, a parent helping with homework, or just curious, immersive explorations are worth ten minutes. Seeing the parts of a jet engine light up one by one sticks better than a paragraph.

But learning a topic and getting work done are different jobs. A visual lesson will not write your essay outline, plan your study week, or turn a reading into flashcards. That is where an [AI agent](https://whatisagenticai.net/what-is-agentic-ai/) fits: you hand it the goal, and it does the steps. In Agentic AI, you can give one task to a Study Buddy, a Research Analyst and a Writing Coach together, and they split the work. Your first 3 tasks are free, with no account needed.
