Nvidia RTX Spark is a new chip for Windows laptops and mini PCs built to run AI agents locally. Specs, price, release date, N1X, and who should buy one.

Nvidia RTX Spark is the first chip from Nvidia that runs a whole Windows PC by itself: the processor, the graphics and the AI hardware in one package. The first laptops went on sale on October 16, 2026, and this week the name is everywhere again as reviews, prices and new software land.

So what is it, what does an RTX Spark laptop cost, and do you need one to use AI agents? Here is the short, plain version.

**TL;DR:** Nvidia RTX Spark is a "superchip" for slim Windows laptops and small desktops. It combines a 20-core Nvidia Grace CPU with a Blackwell RTX GPU (6,144 CUDA cores), up to 128GB of shared memory and up to 1 petaflop of AI compute. It was unveiled at Computex in June 2026 and shipped worldwide on October 16, 2026. Laptops start at $2,599 (Surface Laptop Ultra). It is built for people who want to run AI models and agents on their own machine.

## What is Nvidia RTX Spark?

Most Windows laptops have an Intel or AMD processor, and gaming laptops add a separate Nvidia graphics card. RTX Spark puts both jobs on one Nvidia chip. The CPU and GPU talk over a fast link Nvidia calls NVLink-C2C, and they share one big pool of memory, a bit like Apple’s M-series chips in a MacBook.

That shared memory is the point. AI models are large. A normal graphics card might have 8GB to 16GB of its own memory, which limits how big a model you can run. An RTX Spark machine can give the GPU far more room, up to 128GB in the top setup, so bigger AI models fit on a laptop.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang introduced RTX Spark during his Computex keynote in early June 2026. Nvidia then confirmed in an October 13 post that it would be available worldwide on October 16.

## Nvidia RTX Spark specs

| Part | RTX Spark (top configuration) | What it means |
| --- | --- | --- |
| CPU | Nvidia Grace, up to 20 cores (Arm) | Runs Windows and your apps |
| GPU | Blackwell RTX, up to 6,144 CUDA cores | Graphics, games and AI math |
| AI hardware | 5th-gen Tensor Cores with FP4 | Runs AI models faster and smaller |
| AI compute | Up to 1 petaflop | Nvidia’s headline speed figure |
| Memory | Up to 128GB unified | Room for large local AI models |
| Operating system | Windows 11 | Normal Windows apps and games |

"Up to" matters here. Not every laptop gets the full chip. Cheaper models come with less memory (the Surface Laptop Ultra starts at 24GB), and reports describe two chip configurations.

## What is N1X? Is it the same as RTX Spark?

Yes, more or less. N1X is the chip name that circulated in leaks and reports before launch, and you will still see it in coverage such as Windows Central and TweakTown. Nvidia’s own pages call the platform RTX Spark. If you search "RTX Spark N1X," you are looking at the same chip family.

## How much does an RTX Spark laptop cost?

Nvidia does not sell the chip by itself, so the price depends on the laptop. Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599 with 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage, and Windows Central called it the most affordable RTX Spark laptop you can buy right now. Configurations with more memory and the full chip cost well over $3,000.

Launch makers named by Nvidia are ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface and MSI, with Acer and Gigabyte models coming later. Nvidia also showed small desktop PCs built on the same chip.

## Why RTX Spark matters for AI agents

This is the part that makes RTX Spark more than a fast laptop. Nvidia is pitching it as a home for AI agents that run on your own machine instead of in the cloud:

- **OpenShell on Windows.** Nvidia and Microsoft are building a Windows platform for on-device agents on top of new Windows security features and [NVIDIA OpenShell](https://whatisagenticai.net/blog/what-is-nvidia-openshell/), the sandbox that limits what an agent can touch.

- **Easier agent setup.** Nvidia says Hermes Agent, OpenClaw and Perplexity are adding simpler local model setup on its GPUs.

- **PAIR.** Nvidia’s free, open-source Personal AI Router (in beta) spreads AI work across several PCs on your home network. It works with Ollama and LM Studio.

- **Small models to try.** Nvidia already tested tiny models like [Nemotron 3.5 Bolt E4B](https://whatisagenticai.net/blog/what-is-nemotron-3-5-bolt-e4b/) on RTX Spark.

Nvidia also claims big speedups in tools like llama.cpp and vLLM. Those are Nvidia’s own tests, not independent results.

## RTX Spark reviews: is it good?

Early reviews are mostly positive about AI. Windows Central said local AI models are where the chip really shines and gave the Surface Laptop Ultra 4 out of 5. Gaming is more mixed: TweakTown summed up early reviews as impressive for AI while gaming "falls a little short," with CPU-heavy games a weak spot. Because the CPU is Arm-based, a few older Windows apps and anti-cheat systems may not work on day one. Nvidia itself lists some anti-cheat support as coming in 2027.

## RTX Spark vs DGX Spark vs MacBook Pro

| | Nvidia RTX Spark | Nvidia DGX Spark | MacBook Pro (Apple silicon) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| What it is | Chip inside Windows laptops and mini PCs | A small AI developer desktop box | Apple laptop |
| Operating system | Windows 11 | Linux | macOS |
| Best for | Local AI plus everyday work and games | Building and testing AI models | Creative work, local AI on Mac |
| Memory | Up to 128GB shared | 128GB shared | Shared, varies by model |

The short version: RTX Spark brings the DGX Spark idea, an Nvidia CPU and GPU sharing a big memory pool, to normal Windows laptops. Reviewers compare it most often to the MacBook Pro.

## What this means for you

If you build AI tools, edit video or want to run open models offline, RTX Spark is the most interesting Windows laptop chip in years. If you just want AI to do things for you, like plan a trip, write a report or research a decision, you do not need a new computer at all.

**Agentic AI** puts a team of expert agents on your iPhone and iPad. You describe the task, up to four agents work on it together, and you get finished work back. There is nothing to set up, no model to download and no account needed. New to agents?
